“Between 1 December 2024 and 1 January 2025, a total of 151 people were arrested for drink-driving and drug-driving-related offenses in North Yorkshire.
“Of the 151 people, 102 were arrested for drunk driving offenses and 42 were arrested for drug-related driving offenses.
“Two people were arrested on both drink-driving and drug-driving charges, and 17 people were arrested for failing to provide a roadside specimen.”
Commenting on the findings, Chief Inspector Tom Ibbetson, of North Yorkshire Police's Specialist Operations Unit, said: Actions to protect road safety.
“As part of this year's campaign, we launched a video highlighting how people's thoughtless actions can cause lifelong devastation.
“Despite us sending out this tough message, the figures make disappointing reading, with a significant number of people still making the decision to get behind the wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs. It shows that.
“There is no excuse and our officers are working diligently on each individual case to do everything in their power to prosecute those responsible.
“Although the campaign is coming to a close for another year, our efforts to tackle drink and drug driving continue year-round.
“We will do everything in our power every day this year to target drivers like this who put themselves and others at risk.
“The message is very simple: We will not tolerate this and will relentlessly pursue those who ignore the law and endanger the lives of others.”
