Work has begun to develop hundreds more homes in Yorkshire in two schemes delivered by housebuilder Gleeson Homes.
Groundwork is expected to begin in early January 2025 to add 466 affordable homes to the region's housing pipeline.
Leeds-based Edward Architects is the guided architectural team across both developments, including a former main coal mining block in Doncaster and a former rail freight siding site in Leeds.
Edward Architects has completed outline planning and reservation consent for Dunham Glade, a 41.4 acre former coal mining site in Wormsworth, Doncaster, delivering 333 homes.
The architects' work has also completed detailed planning consent, site design and layout work, and has also completed construction work on Waterloo, a former railway goods siding site on Halton Moor, Leeds, where 133 new homes will be built. It is also the leader of the lateral line ecosystem and natural landscape.
At the Dunham Glade development in Doncaster, a vacant brownfield site on Broomhouse Lane will be renovated to create a mix of two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes.
Part of the former colliery to the south of the site will be redeveloped as Edrington Country Park and will include forest footpaths for pedestrians and a new access road from Broomhouse Lane.
Waterloo Siding in Leeds will include two-, three- and four-bedroom properties aimed at first-time buyers, downsizers and growing families. A new pedestrian walkway will connect the site to Wyckbeck Avenue, providing access from Halton Moore Avenue.
Oliver Smith, Associate at Edward Architects, said: “It was refreshing to work on these historic former National Railroad and Coal Board site plans, which offer a semi-parkland setting and many trail links, as well as community trails and ecology, great locations for residential development.”
“We worked on both projects from a very early stage and also worked on the former landowner Hurworth Estate’s site in Doncaster, where we carried out early feasibility studies, so we took them from concept to construction. It's gratifying to see the evolution of the plan.”
Adam Rehe, Regional Managing Director of Gleason Homes, added: “These two regeneration projects demonstrate our success in transforming brownfield sites into thriving communities, while providing high-quality, affordable housing to those who need it most.”
“We are proud to be working with Edward Architects to contribute to the local housing pipeline and deliver much-needed homes for Doncaster and Leeds.”
