The incident occurred between Leeds and Wakefield when severe weather hit the county as Storm Dollar arrived.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Damage to overhead wires between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate means all lines will be cut. This could result in train cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes and diversions. or changes may occur.”
“Massive disruption is expected until 2pm on Friday 6th December.”
Network Rail is currently on site and plans to complete the repairs overnight. However, service disruptions are expected to continue tomorrow morning.
Cross-country services will be diverted around the area and there will be no service at Wakefield Westgate.
Passengers can use their tickets on the following alternatives: LNER via Reasonable Routes, Northern via Reasonable Routes and TransPennine Express via Reasonable Routes.
LNER is advising customers to postpone travel. Tickets for travel today, Thursday, December 5th, and tomorrow, Friday, December 6th, are valid until Saturday, December 7th.
The rail replacement service will operate between Leeds and Doncaster, via Wakefield Westgate, and will be operated by DM Motor Services, J&B, Quay Travel and York Pullman.
Tickets are available at no extra charge on the following train companies: Cross Country between Sheffield/Doncaster and Leeds/York.
Trains to Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square continued to be canceled on Thursday evening. Problems on the Calder Valley line were caused by fallen trees on the other side of the Pennines, while flooding caused disruption on the Airedale and Wharfedale lines.
