The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for rain and snow affecting parts of the Yorkshire coast on Saturday and Sunday.
The warning highlights the potential for disruption from Saturday's heavy snowfall followed by rapid snowmelt and rain Saturday night.
weather forecast:
Rain is expected to spread to the north-east on Saturday, before bringing snow to northern England and parts of Scotland. Snow will be increasingly confined to higher elevations, while some areas, such as the York Valley, may see brief periods of snow in low-lying areas, where snow could accumulate 5 to 10 centimeters before turning back to rain. High areas above 150 meters above sea level may see 10 to 20 centimeters of snow at one time, while areas above 300 meters may see 20 to 40 centimeters of snow.
Rapidly melting snow, bringing in calmer air and an additional 20-40mm of rain in some highland areas on Saturday night could increase the risk of rain impacts later in the period. .
Potential impact:

In case of delays, bring essentials such as warm clothing, food, water, blankets, flashlights, ice scrapers/deicers, triangular triangles, high-visibility vests, and a cell phone charger in the car. Prepare for potential power outages: Gather flashlights, batteries, cell phone power packs, and other essentials in case of a power outage. Assess your flood risk: Find out if your property is at risk of flooding and consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
