Pre-packed bags filled with healthy, long-standing groceries will be available at all large Tesco stores in the UK from April 7th to 20th.
Tesco Community Director Claire de Silva said:
“Our pre-packed donation bags give Fareshare and Trussell a much-needed top, making a difference in the lives of thousands of children and their families.”
The initiative is part of Tesco's year-round Stronger Starts campaign, including The Fruit and Veg for Schools program, which supports more than 400 schools with high free school lunch rates by providing grants to buy fruit and vegetables from Tesco stores.
“We're looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Emma Revie, CEO of Trussell. “Last year, the food bank network distributed over 1.1 million food parcels for children, almost twice the amount offered five years ago, indicating the unacceptable level of difficulties many people face today.
“This Easter support will make a huge difference for families in the UK.”
Fareshare and Trussell's most needed items are UHT and powdered milk. Canned meat and fish. Long-life fruit juice; cooking/pasta sauce; canned vegetables; canned and dried soup. Pasta, rice, noodles; cereal and porridge; tea and coffee; sponge/rice pudding.
