The Met Office said strong winds could disrupt roads and public transport as people travel across the country over the festive period, adding it would be a “wet and windy weekend for many”. Ta.
A yellow wind warning has been issued for the north-east and north-west, Scotland, parts of Wales and Northern Ireland from 7am on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday.
Westerly winds are expected to pick up into Saturday, with gusts of 50 to 60 mph, with some gusts expected to reach 80 mph.
Meteorologists say strong winds will be more widespread on Sunday, but the weather will be “very calm” by Christmas Day.
