Morrisons of Acomb's Hamilton Drive West were inspected by an inspector from the City of York Council on March 18th.
Due to its hygienic food handling, the convenience store was rated “good” for the cleanliness of the facilities and buildings.
Morrisons said food safety and hygiene were treated “very seriously” and immediate action was taken after hygiene inspections.
A copy of the sanitary inspector's report said the ice cream freezer near the store's main entrance was covered in dust and there were food debris along the seal.

At the rear warehouse store, it was discovered that the freezer on the chest “stained in black mold and slime, and a dead beetle was found on the sticker.”
The shop was also told to clean the washes and replace the tiles above the wash basin to repair the peeling walls near the sink.
Inspectors also noted that the rear door of the external garage store has a gap at the foot of the door, allowing access to pests. The shutter door was also open.
“We must have appropriate procedures in place to control pests,” their report continued.

The report also said there was a problem reporting temperature checks and that he should take part in it.
Inspectors also reported that a packet of bagels, which was found to be most commonly dated before March 14th, and one packet by March 17th, had been best.
The report advised: “The best date is the date when the food manufacturer guarantees the quality of its products.
“We recommend not selling foods that are above the best before the date.
“We recommend adding slash machine cleaning to your cleaning schedule.”
A Morrisons spokesperson told the media: “We take food safety and hygiene very seriously. Following these scores, we are taking action immediately and working with the store team to improve this.”
Morrisons was inspected daily at Martin House's 16-18 BORLEY RISE, STRENSALL, March 11th and earned a five-star meaning “very good.”
The Morrisons of Gehl Lane, York, who was tested in February 2024, have five stars, as does the Morrisons of Crichton Avenue every day, following the February 2021 test.
Morrisons, 51 Moorcroft Road in York, won four stars when inspected in May 2023, but Morrisons received two stars every day at Haxby's 37-39 Oak Tree Lane.
