As Christmas Day approaches, Coach Hinshelwood shares his and his players' plans for Christmas Day, with the team set to train ahead of the Boxing Day spectacle at Oldham Athletic (5.30pm). It was decided.
It's business as usual for Hinshelwood, who admitted he will be solely focused on the battle against Oldham on Christmas Day, with the manager explaining why he decided to train and his plans for the day.
“I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” Hinshelwood happily wished.
“Really continue the support they've shown us all season. We're in a good position and we want to stay there, and they're a big part of that.”
“We're just trying to do the best we can for the game.
“I could have come Monday and Tuesday and taken Wednesday off and gone to the game, but that’s not normal preparation for a game.
“We had a late kick-off on Christmas Eve, so I think we'll be training and leaving by 1 o'clock, so it's going to be a long time from Christmas Eve until we meet again on Boxing Day.
“We are in a good position so we need to do everything we can to prepare properly for Boxing Day. This will give us the best possible preparation for the match.”
“The team is made up of mostly single young people who are living lives that they can't go back to.
“It’s the same for me, Gary (Elphick, assistant manager) and Cam (Morrison, first team coach). Just like I can’t travel down south and come back to Oldham on Boxing Day, I won’t be able to go back. ”.
“Now that we're here, the majority of people seem to be looking forward to getting out and putting on their boots. It's something for them and the older lads to do, and we don't have as much We don't know about it and we don't know yet.'' There were too many large families, just a couple with small children, and we wanted them to come at the right time.
“At the end of the day, we are all professionals and want to do our best to give ourselves the best chance of winning on Boxing Day, and we feel this is the best preparation for that.”
It is unusual for the Hinshelwood family, along with York manager Adam, son Jack who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, and father Paul, formerly of Crystal Palace, to focus on football on Christmas Day. do not have. Grandfather Wally, who played for Chelsea, is also all or once involved in a busy football schedule during the festive period.
But this Christmas will be a new experience for Hinshelwood and her family. Son Jack, who is likely to play against Brentford on Friday, December 27 (7.30pm), will not be able to visit his father.
“It made sense because I had to travel to Norwich on Christmas Day and stay in a hotel for the night,” Hinshelwood laughed.
“For many people, Christmas is a bit of a holiday, but for those involved in football there is more time off at this time of year.
“It's become the norm. I think my wife understands now, and she knows that it might be the case.
“I'll be attending with my family this afternoon, but I think this will be the first time I haven't spent Christmas Day with Jack.
“It will be something new for us but we had some time after the Oldham game so we are lucky to be able to catch up with him then.”
