At £28 each, they represent good value for such a lovely hotel. We were offered tea and coffee and the teenagers had soft drinks. The finger sandwich (naturally the skin was cut off) had ham and tomato chutney on white bread, egg mayonnaise, rocket, smoked salmon and cream cheese, cheese and red onion marmalade on brown bread.
There were large fruit scones each served warm with warm cream and strawberry jam.
Then finally there was a spectacular array of sweet treats beautifully presented.
My husband preferred the banoffee pie and baked lemon cheesecake, while I preferred the Victoria sponge cake and the chocolate and rum delis. So, like Jack Spratt and his wife, the platter was clean at the end (which wasn't strictly true, but they were happy to offer a box for leftovers!)
Why not push the boat out and add a glass of prosecco for an extra £6? After shopping in Harrogate or visiting the Turkish baths, afternoon tea at the Crown Hotel looks like the perfect day out!
