Almost two-thirds (63%) of people say it costs more to cook their favorite meals than they did two years ago, and more people than ever before will skip the oven this Christmas. It will increase.
People born between 1946 and 1964 were found to be most financially motivated for frying, with 72% adopting air fryers due to cost-saving benefits, and 72% primarily motivated by reduced energy consumption. Of course, the best equipment will depend on what you're cooking and how many people you're cooking for. If you're preparing meals for one or two people, the Energy Saving Trust suggests that an air fryer may be cheaper to run. 2 lbs/900g medium red potatoes 1 tbsp duck or goose fat 2 tsp dried rosemary 1 tsp dried thyme Pinch of mustard powder Salt, black pepper Peel the potatoes, cut them in half, then cut them into quarters. Set it to 1. Place in a bowl with the duck fat, rosemary, thyme and mustard powder. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper and mix well with your hands to coat the potatoes evenly. Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket and spread out. Air fry at 160°C/320°F for 25 minutes or until potatoes are fork-tender. If you are not satisfied with the level of crispiness, cook for an additional 4 minutes or until desired doneness.
Expert tip: You can use any potato, but red potatoes will give you the best results as they are less starchy and are better suited for air frying.
