But the disadvantages of having to play catch-up were exposed last night as the Bradford side suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat to bottom Knaresborough Town.
It was a big ask for Albion to improve themselves just two days after their heartbreaking last-32 exit, their furthest yet in the prestigious competition.
And last night they got off to a nightmare start. Ben Parkes took the ball chested by former striker Adam Priestley and fired it past keeper Jordan Porter and into the bottom left corner.
Albion tried to fight back and fired a shot over the bar, but Smaili Cisse complained that he should have taken a penalty as he felt he had been clipped by Knaresborough stopper Tom Brown.
But otherwise it was a slim pick until just before the break when Tinique Fishley's effort was tipped wide by Brown.
Porter then had to do his best to stop Dominic Creamer with his feet as he tried to double Knaresborough's lead.
Parks came close to scoring his second goal of the game early in the second half, but his shot went just wide of the target.
Albion kept the pressure on, but struggled to create chances and were made to pay the price.
Porter conceded a disastrous throw-in by letting it fly over his legs, but Priestley made the most of it, running in and pushing the ball into the goal.
Knaresborough's Luke Stewart and Albion's Fernand Mauk were sent off after a tantrum flared up in the closing stages.
Naturally, this led to a long stoppage time of 10 minutes, but the visiting team were unable to do anything and suffered only their fifth league defeat of the season.
However, Albion remain in a great position, four points behind Penistone, who occupy the final play-off spot, and an astonishing seven games clear of Sheffield.
