Amity Brew Co is based at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley and brews a range of craft beers and has a popular bar.
The brewery this week submitted plans to Bradford City Council to move its brewing operations to Albion Mills in Greengates, where it will also open a new taproom space.
Sunnybank Mills Bar will remain and expand into the area currently used for brewing.
One of the company's directors told the Telegraph & Argus that they hoped the new business would be up and running by spring or summer, adding it was a “fantastic time” to move as Bradford entered its City of Culture year. He said it was.
Amity Brew Co was founded in 2020 and has since become popular on the UK craft beer scene, with their Hazy Pale Water Pistol rated the best pale in the UK in 2023.
The brewery's planning application is to convert unit 46A at Albion Mills, a former furniture storage unit that has been vacant for many years.
The changes will “make a positive contribution to the local economy and the revitalization of long-vacant units.”
Verity Clark, one of the brewery directors, said: We needed more brewing capacity.
“We debated whether to recreate what we had at Sunny Bank Mills elsewhere in Yorkshire, but decided it would be much better for us to move our production facility just three miles away from Farsley. I did.
“When we saw this building, we never dreamed we would be able to take on a place of this size, but people told us the space would fill up quickly.
“When we move, all of our brewing will take place in Bradford. We have purchased new equipment so the move will allow us to brew 24 hours a day. At the moment we only brew when the bar is closed. can.”
The brewery's beers can be found in select bars and craft beer shops across Yorkshire, but 90% of their beer currently flows through the Sunnybank Mills taproom. The new brewery space will allow the company to reach new heights and will also expand the Sunny Bank Mills bar.
But Clark said the brewery doesn't intend to brew beer for supermarkets, a step some craft breweries have taken that could compromise quality in some cases.
The frequency with which the taproom will open has not yet been determined, but initially it will likely be about once a month.
Mrs Clark said: “We're proud to be part of the Leeds scene, but Bradford is an up-and-coming place. It's a cultural city, so it's a really great time to do this.”
A decision on the application is expected to be made in March.
