Savannah, who was a pupil at West Heslerton Elementary School, died from neck injuries at her home in East Heslerton.
The inquest was adjourned until a date was fixed.
Following the tragedy earlier this month, North Yorkshire Police said officers from Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called to the scene at around 4.15pm.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals and members of the public who came to help her family, Savannah died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and police said the dog's actions are part of the investigation to determine why it attacked.
Police said at the time that all signs suggested it was out of character and that the girl and her pet had a close and loving relationship.
The force said the dog, identified as an XL bully, was euthanized by a veterinarian.
A spokesperson said the dog had lived with the family for four years and had an exemption certificate under the new law. She had also been neutered.
In a statement released by North Yorkshire Police after the incident, the family said: “We are completely shocked and devastated by what happened to Savannah.
“I can't believe we have lost such a wonderful girl that we loved so much.”
