Households will receive a payment of £25 towards heating costs as the Cold Weather Benefit is issued in 2025.
A total of 51 postcode areas have started making payments as a severe arctic freeze grips the UK, with some areas bracing for heavy snow and temperatures of -20C.
You can receive a payment if the average temperature in your area has been below 0 degrees Celsius for seven consecutive days and you claim special benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
If you're eligible, you won't need to apply as payments will be made automatically.
An estimated 3.9 million people and 100,000 households are eligible for cold region benefits.
The payments will be issued to people living in certain areas of West Yorkshire, East Lancashire, North Yorkshire and County Durham.

More than 100,000 households are now eligible for payments due to the cold weather.
From 1 November 2023 to 31 March 2025, you'll receive £25 for every 7-day cold period.
You may be eligible for an agar payment if you receive certain benefits or mortgage interest support, such as:
Pension Credit Income Support Income-Based Jobseeker Allowance Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance Universal Credit Mortgage Interest Support
Please also let Jobcentre Plus know if you have a baby or children under 5 living with you.
If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you won't be able to receive a cold weather payment. However, in Scotland you may be able to receive an annual winter heating allowance instead.
Payment must be received within 14 business days after a period of very cold weather in your area.
It will be paid into the same bank or building association account as your benefit payment.
