Emergency services were called to the property in Heysham Drive, Holm Wood, at midday.
The fire is understood to have been deliberately started by setting a rubbish bin on fire, which ignited the front door.
The man was examined by paramedics.
When The Telegraph & Argus visited the scene just after 3pm, the entrance was pitch black and the fire appeared to have spread up the walls and onto the roof.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 11.57am this morning (Friday, January 3), officers were called to reports of a fire in Heysham Drive, Bradford. .
“It is understood that a mobile bin was set on fire and it struck the front door of the property.
“The man was examined by paramedics as a precautionary measure.
“Initial investigations indicate that the fire was started deliberately and a crime of arson has been registered.
“A scene was set up while police carried out inquiries.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We can confirm that crews from Odsal and Holmfirth are currently on scene, along with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) and West Yorkshire Police (WYP).” .
“The incident began at 11:50 a.m. following reports of a fire on Heysham Drive, officials reported.
“The fire is under control.”
