Birdsall House has been announced as highly commended as Best Venue (Historical) at the 2025 Yorkshire and North East Wedding Industry Awards.
Results are based on average voter scores and customer feedback over the past 12 months, as well as the opinions of more than 150 expert judges.
Birdsall House was built by the Sotheby family in 1540.
In 1719, Lord Middleton's second son, Thomas Willoughby, was traveling from Nottingham across the Yorkshire Wolds when he became lost in a snowstorm.
Following a distant light, he arrived at Birdsall House, where the Sotheby family gave him shelter for the night.
Willoughby fell in love with Elizabeth, the only daughter and heiress of the Sotheby's family, and they soon married.
Their descendants, James and Carla Willoughby and their three children, opened the home for events in 2018.
A spokesperson for Birdsall House said: 'We are delighted to be particularly proud of our new private party venue, The Old Kitchen, as a result of feedback from couples who have actually held their special day here. “It's really special in the year we launched the company.”
“We host up to 10 exclusive weddings a year in our homes, grounds and now within our party spaces, so it’s great to be recognized among some of the biggest wedding brands. That’s it.”
