West Yorky Mayor Tracy Bravin today hands out £1 million in cash seized by criminals to community organisations.
The Common/Wealth Theatre Company in Bradford will receive £19,536 from the fund.
Work with young people at risk of crime to provide drama programs with performance results as part of Bradford 2025.
Evie Manning, co-director of Common/Wealth, said:
“The funds received from the mayor will allow us to work with young people from across Bradford who are at risk of breach, build confidence and resilience through drama and tell stories in our own voice, developing skills for successful lives in the future.”
A total of 58 community projects were awarded funding at the event held at Bradford Academy on Monday night.
Another project will be carried out by R-Youth CIC, a Wakefield-based organization that works with vulnerable children and young people in high crime areas where gang involvement and potentially at risk of criminal activity.
“The organization's director is Mohammed Amran Nazir,” said: At R-Youth CIC it refuses to become their only path.
“This funding from the mayor's Safer Communities Fund will help disrupt that cycle by providing a lifeline structure sports, mentoring and a positive support network.
“Through the multi-sports and pathways to education, we attract young people from high crime regions and give them the confidence, discipline and opportunity they deserve. This is not just sports, it's about saving the future.”
Since its establishment in 2021, mayor Safer Communities Fund has passed 415 local projects totaling £4,042,628.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Bravin said:

Funds come from cash and assets seized from criminals by police and prosecutors under the Crime Act.
