Bradford: City of Cinema is a year-long program of film events held as part of the Year of Culture, celebrating the city's status as a UNESCO City of Cinema.
In one of the events, Canon Mills in Little Houghton was transformed into a drive-in cinema over Easter weekend.
This is the first in a series of “outdoor, site-specific, immersive screenings of films in spectacular and unexpected locations across the region, both rural and urban.”
Bradford 2025 announced details of the program this week, saying it will build a diverse audience across the borough for films and moving images, further strengthening the region's independent film culture.
We also hope that it will help inspire more people to join the film industry.
Referring to the planned temporary drive-in, the announcement states: “The first location will be a drive-in cinema experience at Cannon Mills in Little Houghton, overlooking the dramatic skyline of Bradford's historic textile mills. A series of screenings will be offered over the weekend over the Easter holidays.”
Similar to pop-up cinemas, there is a mobile cinema that travels around the district called 'The Moving Cinema'.
Bradford 2025 states: “A unique cinema experience within a clear track, visiting several locations in the Bradford area, including areas underserved by cinema provision.”
“When parked, the moving cinema transforms into a fully enclosed movie auditorium, seating 100 people.”
