“When we opened the new dome a year ago, no one could have imagined that it would be such a success,” he told the ECB.
“This is a fantastic, state-of-the-art internet facility, used by both the community and professional teams, and its impact is huge.
“Everyone has been given the opportunity to play cricket all year round, rather than just the traditional April to September period.
“It’s such a privilege to be able to continue playing outside all winter long, even if it gets a little cold at times.
“About 20,000 people have played here since it opened.
“Some people are online with their clubs, some are online with their mates, and some are just playing one-on-one.
“We had high-profile players like Shan Masood and Adil Rashid and teams like Northern Superchargers come to find the net.
“But the most enjoyable moments are moments like when a grandpa brings his grandchildren.”
Hussein added: “We intentionally charge only minimal costs to ensure everyone has access.
“The love of cricket brings people here. It doesn't matter their colour, gender or nationality, what they have in common is the love of cricket.
“We’re building a unique community where cricket is the main runner, and it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your skill set is, we invite you to come and have fun.
“That inclusivity is key and there is a lot of women's cricket active here, including Bradford Park Avenue Ladies and other local women's teams, as well as the ECB's national women's tape ball competition.
“I have spent half my life here, so I already have a lot of memories in this place.
“The best part was when 20 different Sikh temples came here and we played cricket for a whole day.Everyone who was here that day wondered why their town didn’t have a dome like this. I wanted to know.”
Looking to the future, Hussain said, “This is just the latest phase of Park Avenue's renaissance and revitalization, so there will be much more to come.''
“The next step is to complete the rest of the site, the new pavilion and bring the seating back to ground level.
“One of the things we have always talked about is that this ground is a first class facility for the local community and we are working towards that.”
