Detective Inspector Andrew Crawford from Humberside Police said the man tried to break into a house before exposing himself indecently on a Bridlington street on Friday (December 27).
He said the man followed the woman from West Street to an address on Clarence Avenue at around 12.35am and “attempted to enter the premises” but was “unable to gain entry”.
“It is understandable that the woman is suffering and we, along with our partners, are providing support to her,” DI Crowforth said.
“The victim described the man as white and wearing black clothing.
“We carried out a number of investigations and followed up on various leads including scrutinizing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries related to the incident.”
DI Crowforth said police patrols would be increased in Bridlington following the incident.
He called on anyone with information that could help the investigation to come forward.
“Understandably, this is concerning for Bridlington residents and we would like to reassure the community that we are treating this as a priority and will not tolerate any form of harm to women and girls. I would like to do that,” DI Crowforth said.
“We have increased patrols in and around the area and officers from our Neighborhood Policing Team continue to provide additional reassurance to the community. “We encourage anyone with any concerns to come forward and talk to us. I think so.
“If you know who this man is, or if you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area, please call us immediately. I would like to ask you a question regarding this.”
