Nunnington Racer had to retire in the first race due to mechanical issues, but won the first overall podium for new team Jenzer Motorsport in Race 2 around Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya.
Burt was on the course for his first F4 victory in Race 3 after crossing the line in first place, but was given a five-second penalty due to too many track limit violations, dropping the ranking to third place.
Nonetheless, it was another encouraging weekend that helped highlight the progress the 17-year-old is making with his new team.
“Overall, it was a good weekend. It was the best so far,” he said on Instagram.
“We were well qualified, but unfortunately in Race 1 I was running in P3 and had mechanicals. Then I finished in Race 2. This was my first overall podium in F4.
“Track penalty, that's annoying, but it's a good thing that we're running in front of us and we look forward to coming back.”
Although there was a mix of weather conditions in Barcelona, Burt was able to gain confidence on Saturday morning as he showed a good pace in Tests on Thursday and Friday.
On the wet track, he qualified P3 and P6 in P4 in qualifying sessions 1 and Q2. He only missed the double pole position in the Q1 as he was blocked by another slower car, but Burt and the team were very pleased.
By that afternoon, the track had dried for race one and Bert had made a profit with the top two cars before mechanical obstacles finished his race around the half-baked mark.
When the rain returned, I was confident that I would take the pace of his race on Sunday from his race pace. The teenager quickly moved from his P6 start position to third place and since stepping into the Singles Seaters last year, he has kept his first overall podium on the finish line.
The afternoon race was dry, but Burt maintained his strong pace and crossed the line as the race winner.
However, just five minutes later, he was given a five-second penalty for a track restriction intrusion on the final lap, dropping him third.
There was some controversy over this decision. Burt believed there were still three track limit violations before the final lap. Unfortunately, the steward had provided information behind the lap and had Bert known, he would have been very advantageous to protect his first victory.
In the end, they didn't mind changing the outcome while the stewards apologized.
Disappointed at losing the Maiden Race victory, but it was a successful series for Bert, and it's been a good success for the Italian and Euro 4 championships he will contest later this year.
