School students and their teachers went to nursery and school dressed in fashionable clothes to celebrate their best love books, stories and fictional characters.
The annual celebration encourages children to read and dress up as characters from their favorite books and pick up copies of special editions by popular authors.
Some of the most popular costumes at this year's event are the characters of the Dog Man, Gangsta Granny, Glinda, Elfaba, Harry Potter and Mary Poppins.
Hayley Revis of Swinton Preschool said she attended the event.
We were very impressed with how enthusiastic the kids were to sit for the story this morning. They also loved sharing books from home.
Children at the Firetation Preschool in Malton attended the event wearing costumes ranging from Spider-Man to Princess.
“We're looking forward to seeing you in the world,” said Cassie Chadderton, CEO of World Book Day.
“Our job as charity is to experience the life-changing benefits of choosing to read for more children, so let them give them a reason to listen and find the fun of reading.
“Supporting choices and embracing technology is an easy step to deal with our growing reading crisis and unlocking the benefits of reading for fun for future generations.”
