Martree Investments began work this month on a new £3.5m development of nine 40,000 sq ft business units at Calder Park, near Wakefield.
Martree Business Park Wakefield will become the Yorkshire developer’s 23rd strategically located employment hub in the north of England and is due for completion in June 2025.
The development will provide warehouse, industrial and trade counter space across nine units ranging from 3,500 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft.
The company recently completed a £4.5 million 27,000 sq ft business park and Starbucks drive-thru on Clifton Moor in York earlier this year.
William Marshall, Director of Martree Investments, said:
“Situated directly next to Junction 39 of the M1 motorway, we have excellent communications links, making it an ideal location for a variety of residents. The site also has easy access to Wakefield town centre. Regular public transport and safe cycling routes are also available.
“Demand for truly high-quality spaces of this size, such as ours, continues to outstrip supply and, unsurprisingly, we have seen very high levels of interest so far.
“As well as previous developments such as the 70,000 sq ft Sowerby Gateway site in Thirsk, demand for units at Martree Business Park Wakefield is also high and is expected to create around 100 jobs.”
Organizations currently based at Calder Park include National Highways, Taylor Wimpey Homes, West Yorkshire Police and Minster Law.
George Marshall, director of Martree Investments, added: “We have also worked diligently to ensure the environmental certification of this new development, which is adjacent to a 100-acre nature reserve.
“We have incorporated solar panels and EV charging points on the roof of the units and are excited that they will be a safe and easy place for people to cycle to work.”
Newcastle-based STP Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the construction of the new business park, with Savills' Leeds office and GV & Co as letting agents.
