A prize of £15,000 was awarded to the Craven Museum in Skipton Town Hall. Selected as one of five finalists for the 2024 Art Fund Museum of the Year award.
At an awards ceremony held at London's National Gallery yesterday, overall winner Young V&A – London's Victoria and Albert Museum was awarded the award for broadcaster and Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024. A cash prize of £120,000 was awarded by Vic Hope, who is also a member of the team. Evening (Wednesday, July 10th).

Craven Museum – What to Expect
Craven Museum is located within the Grade II listed Skipton Town Hall. A contemporary multi-arts cultural hub on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The venue also includes exhibition galleries, a historic concert hall, and educational and community spaces. All of these work together with museums to enrich and expand the cultural experiences on offer.
The museum was named Kids in Museum Family Friendly Museum 2023 and Best Accessible Museum 2023. Rated one of the top three museums in terms of accessibility out of over 2,000 museums and heritage sites. Recognizing the current cost of living crisis, Craven Museum has programmed free and low-cost activities and events for families every day during the 2023 school holidays.
From 2022 to 2023, 115 artists exhibited their works in the museum's exhibition galleries. In addition, eight community groups created exhibits in the Community Case. The museum welcomed 156,391 visitors in 2022-2023, an increase of approximately 56,000 visitors compared to 2021/2022.
What is Art Fund?
Each year, the Arts Foundation shortlists five outstanding museums for Museum of the Year. The 2024 edition will recognize inspiring projects centered around audiences and communities from fall 2022 to winter 2023. We have a particular focus on community engagement, sustainable ways of working, and demonstrating ambition by reinventing what it means to be the 'best' museum for audiences today and tomorrow.
Craven Museum was one of five finalists. Other finalists were Dundee Contemporary Art in Dundee, Manchester Museum and National Portrait Gallery in London and winner Yonge V&A – Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Each finalist will receive £15,000. Together with the £120,000 received by the winning museums, the total prize money for Artfund Museum of the Year is £180,000, with a special increase in 2023 to mark Artfund's 120th anniversary of support for museums. Ru.
The 2024 judging panel, chaired by Arts Fund director Jenny Waldman, includes Anupam Ganguly, finance director of the historic royal palace, broadcaster Vic Hope, artist Tania Kovacs, and Scottish Sir John Leighton, former director general of the National Gallery, attended. The judges visited each finalist and informed them of their decisions.
This award is funded by the generous donations of Arts Fund members who purchase National Arts Passes. Passholders will receive discounts and benefits at shortlisted museums and hundreds of other museums and galleries across the UK. At the same time, we support the Foundation for the Arts' important work in championing museums and preserving our nation's cultural treasures.
