Edward Ackford, 28, of no fixed address, was jailed for eight weeks after admitting possessing a garrote wire designed for strangulation on a train from Sunderland to York. He was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a statutory surcharge of £154.

Liam Dawson, 19, of Glen Close, Melbourne, East Yorkshire, was charged with using threatening words or behavior towards a man in York and criminal damage to a car in Bishop Hill. Pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 40 hours of unpaid work. He must pay compensation of £150 and a statutory surcharge of £114.
