These payments are provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to help with heating costs during inclement weather.
What is cold weather payment?
The Cold Weather Payment Scheme provides you with £25 for every seven days when the average temperature in your area is recorded or predicted to be below 0°C.
Payments will be applied from November 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, and will be automatically distributed to eligible benefit recipients.
Eligible households must receive payments within 14 business days of the cold weather event.
You don't need to apply, but if you have a baby or child under the age of five, you may need to notify Jobcentre Plus to ensure they are included.

Below are postcodes for North Yorkshire, County Durham and areas with DL postcodes where the cold weather payment has recently been introduced.
DL8: Bedale, Hawes, Coverham, Leyburn, Middleham (North Yorkshire) DL11: Swaledale, Leith, Low Low, Arkengarthdale (North Yorkshire) DL12: Barnard Castle, Bowes, Middleton-in-Teesdale (County Durham) DL13 : Stanhope, Frosterley, Walsingham, Torow (County Durham)

Eligibility for Cold Region Payments
Pension credit income support Earnings-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) Earnings-related Employment Support Allowance (ESA) Universal Credit support for mortgage interest
You can usually get Universal Credit and receive a cold weather payment if:
You are not employed or “self-employed for profit” Your partner is not employed or “self-employed for profit” (if you have a partner)
What do I need to do?
There is no need to apply. If you qualify for a cold weather payment, you will be paid automatically.
when will it be paid
If you're eligible for the cold weather payment, you'll receive £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather from 1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Payment must be received within 14 business days after a period of very cold weather in your area. It will be paid into the same bank or building association account as your benefit payment.
If you cannot receive cold region payment
If you think you should receive cold weather benefits but haven't, please tell your pension scheme or Jobcentre Plus.
If you have Universal Credit, sign in to your account and add a note to your diary.
If you don't have an online account, please call the Universal Credit helpline instead. The phone number will be on your Universal Credit claim letter.
