Recognizing that many people want to eat outdoors as much as possible, our dining out reviews focus on outdoor dining spots.
Remember where we've been over the past few weeks?
The Ship Inn, Acaster Malvis
With a fantastic location on the River Ouse and a huge beer garden at the front of the pub, this has got to be one of the best spots in York to eat and drink al fresco.
Our reviewer said:
“The menu was what you would expect from a country pub, with fish and chips, bangers, mash and burgers, priced between £12.50 and £13.50.Vegetarian options included burgers, macaroni and cheese and battered Starters included soup, chicken skewers, pâté, garlic mushrooms and smoked salmon (from £5.50 to £6.95).
“Sip also has a pizza menu, ranging from £8 for a traditional margarita to a more experimental option with sea duck at £13.50. For pizza lovers, gluten-free options are also available. It was good.”
The fish and chips and bangers and mash went well together.

Thor's Tipi, main hotel grounds, York
Thor's Summer Tipi offers the best of both worlds: outdoor table dining and an indoor space when the weather turns. Advance reservations are recommended. Meals will be provided by local business Hog and Apple.
Our reviewer said:
“If you’re hungry and want a fun place to hang out with friends and enjoy delicious carbs with your drinks, Thor’s is the place to go.
“Our caterers, Hog and Apple, are in charge of the menu, which includes a limited number of sandwiches, chips and salads, as well as mini plates for children.I counted 10 dishes in total, and for children and one dessert”: Eton Mess. Prices range from £5 to £10.95 and include Odin's Bowl (rump steak with skin-on fries and peppercorn sauce). All the dishes are given appropriate warrior names.
Valhalla fries (chips with ground meat and cheese, described as a kind of cheesy lasagna chips) were the reviewers' favorite dish here.

The Judge's Lodges, Rendall, York
We recommend booking in advance to secure an outdoor table at this popular York spot.
The menu is varied, but reviewers were particularly impressed with this shared starter.
“We shared the Cheesemonger Plate (£16), which included boxed camembert, goat cheese arancini, marinated olives, chipotle-spiced guacamole, pickles and homemade bread.
“It was the ideal starter, not too hearty and packed a very tasty punch. The baked cheese was slathered on homemade bread cut with pickles and was sharp and rich. The arancini had the perfect amount of flavour. It was a bowl of bonbons.”
