Plant experts are urging houseplant owners to strengthen their care routines as seasons change and temperatures rise.
Changes in temperature, humidity and light levels can have a major impact on houseplants, and experts say it is essential that owners provide the necessary care.
Elise Harlock, brand manager at Prestige Flowers, explains that it is now the perfect time to switch watering habits, nourish your schedule and focus on the overall plant health.
“As springs get fully underway, houseplants begin to grow more aggressively, meaning they require extra care. It's important to check your plants more frequently to prevent dehydration, as increased sunlight hours and increased temperatures can cause the soil to dry out faster.”
Why you should water your houseplants more frequently in warm weather
One of the most important adjustments that home owners should make is to increase the frequency of watering.
During colder months, plants need less water as evaporation rates decrease and growth decreases. However, as the temperature warms, more regular hydration will be required.
Elise recommends checking the top inch of the soil with a simple hack – “Touch Test”.
All you need is your fingers – if you feel the soil is dry to the touch, it's time to water the plants.

Spring Tips to Help Your Ornamental Plants to Prosper
Feeding is another important task this month. As the plant enters an active growth period, additional nutrients are required to support new leaves and stems.
“A balanced liquid fertilizer applied every two to four weeks provides the plants with the nutrients they need,” says Elise.
“However, it is important to follow instructions carefully to avoid excessive intake that can lead to weak or leggy growth.”
Beyond the basics of watering and feeding, it is now also the ideal time to give your plants extra TLC. Dust accumulates in the leaves, which can inhale sunlight and reduce its ability to photosynthesize.

“A slow wipe with a damp cloth or apply a light shower can help keep you clean and healthy,” says Elise.
“Cutting dead or yellowing leaves promotes new growth and prevents disease from spreading.”

It is also worth checking if the plant needs to repeat. “If you notice that the roots and soil growing through the drainage hole are dry very quickly, the plant may have roots tied up.”
“Spring is the perfect time to report, as plants can quickly establish themselves in new containers.”
Elise explains that these small but important adjustments can ensure that indoor plants will flourish from spring to summer months.
