Over the weekend we visited Xscape Yorkshire near Castleford. There's really a lot to do. We did our day of activity and there were still many things we couldn't cover. We were there specifically to write about activities, so we usually don't do as much as a day (unless we have a lot of energy!).
First we visited Volcanic Waterfall Mini Golf. It is the theme of rocks and dinosaurs with a prehistoric atmosphere. The whole family enjoyed this. You can also maintain your score online.
There were 18 holes in total, and it took about an hour to complete. There is a second, completely independent course that starts downstairs and ends on the second floor if you want to return. The course we did not involve procedures, so it would be better for those with mobility issues.
Right next to Volcano Falls is digital darts. This is my first time playing digital darts and this is the first time I've ever thought it was so much fun.
There is a real dartboard surface and you throw real darts (I'll mention this because I wasn't sure before we went). You can choose from many different DART-based games, then projected onto the wall in front of you.
Your score is automatically calculated (this was great for me, because that's something I hate about darts). You can choose to play either regular darts or many fun variations.
After a bit of relaxation at the Tiki Bar, the youngest teenager was able to indulge in bubble tea.
Our next calling port was the escape room for the fugitives. We love escape rooms and generally they're pretty good at it, but this was tough (and no, we didn't get away!). We tried out the D3LIR1UM, a horror-themed room with blood and a creepy soundtrack on the walls. The teens loved it!
If you've never tried an escape room before and like puzzles and difficult questions, you really should.
I can't give up too much (obviously) but I need to solve the puzzle to solve the code and open padlock to receive more clues. The hard bit is solving what a puzzle is in the first place!
After the escape room adventure, we were hungry so headed over to Frankie and Benny's. York doesn't have Franky and Benny anymore so it was lovely to be able to do this.
We had a lovely booth that was perfect for the 4 of us (I love the booth!). We didn't have much time before the next activity so we jumped straight into the main course. Mr. W ordered the whole slow cooked rack of BBQ ribs.
My eldest son went for BBQ chicken and fries.
The youngest teen went to Franky's classic meatballs:
I left the piste and ordered a starter for two instead of a main. Both of these are great and I do the same again. Here we have a New York potato dipper topped with cheese:
Sticky chicken wings in BBQ sauce:
I miss Franky and Benny in York, so this was a real treat!
From lunch we headed to the fan station and played on a video arcade and toy grabber machine.
They couldn't grab the toy, but when they refill their fan station cards, they're in the moment they can choose between a chick or a stuffed Easter bunny animal, they're in the trade. We went for the bunny. The bunny is a lovely and decent size.

Finally, before we got home we turned a gravity electronic cart truck. You must attend a safety briefing and arrive before track time to be suitable for balaclava and helmets. Once you enter the car, you get a quick “how-to” (two pedals, one goes, the other stops!).
This is something I've never done before and frankly it was a bit scary! Mr W and his eldest son loved it, but I wouldn't say I love it, but I'm so glad that I was brave enough to give it a try!
For everyone who can do many activities (skiing, swimming, VR, immersive game boxes, etc.), enjoy something for everyone. There are offers for activities, so check ahead to see if you can save money (and try more!). If you haven't been to Xscape in a while, it's definitely on your list!
We were invited to visit and review. As always, all opinions are my own.
