The Swan Service Station is located off the coast of Huddersfield Road in Millfield and opened for business in 2023. The site consists of a gas station, a kiosk/convenience store and three commercial retail units. The latest application uses these three units to turn it into a food and drink outlet.
Applicant – Acumen – says he's interested from the “famous” coffee shop operator, the National Pizza Company, and another hot food operator. However, we don't know if previously protected planning permissions allow these uses, but planning policies have changed ever since.
So far, we have received one objection from a local resident. They stated: And anyone living in the area knows there is no need for any further takeaway.
“There are 21 takeouts on the one mile stretch from Scouthill to Swan Service Station. Huddersfield Road is hit by garbage from these takeouts, causing traffic congestion as cars enter and exit the side of the road. There are. If these units are turned into takeaway, we can get more garbage, more traffic, more disruption.
“We don't need it anymore given the health impact of fast food on youth health, and school children returning home from Castle Hall School to Raven's Thorpe may be attracted to the advertising and deals these facilities offer. ”
However, the applicants emphasize that schools are more than twice as far away from all key points as required under national planning policies.
The target date for the decision decided by the Council is set for March 31st.
