“Forage will cease trading as of today and will remain closed for the foreseeable future,” Jack said.
“This was not a decision taken lightly and unfortunately in today's circumstances it was not possible for us to continue operating.
“Of course we would like to thank our customers and the York community.
“A special mention must go to our staff who have dedicated their time, passion and energy to running such a special restaurant.”
He said every effort was being made to relocate 19 staff members from Forage.
The restaurant is closed today and Jack said every effort is being made to contact people who have made reservations.

The restaurant featured head chef Kieran Duffy, formerly of Le Cochon Aveugre and Roots, and took a Middle Eastern culinary bent, serving many teppanyaki and barbecue dishes.
Part of the restaurant's ethos was to be as sustainable as possible, using a lot of locally sourced and foraged ingredients.
The venue had more than 100 covers, and the building was previously part of restaurant chain Gusto, which closed in 2020.
The business was previously owned by York-based entrepreneur Callum Houston, who is also the founder and director of events company Yorkshire Bartender and distillery Yorkshire Explorer.
The building has a speakeasy and bar, and on Thursdays they held cocktail masterclasses and industry networking nights in the speakeasy bar upstairs.
