Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Morecambe improved their struggling record to one win from seven competitive games.
They will return straight away for tomorrow's league game against Barrow at Valley Parade, but Alexander insisted the looming mid-season market needs to take a backseat.
“There's a lot of talk about January, but we have a lot of games before that,” the City manager said. “I'm not thinking about January.
“Given all the challenges we have faced over the past two or three months, we are still in a strong position within the league.
“We have 30 games left. We have players right now that I think can help us win games, so that's what I'm going to focus on.”
Owner Stefan Rupp assured Alexander he had money to spend, despite potentially losing the FA Cup by losing in the second round.
But Alexander added: “I don't want to talk about January. I don't want to talk about improving this or that. I want to help these players reach their potential.
“At this point, I don’t think that’s going to happen, we just have to make some adjustments.
“Look at Colchester away, extra time is 10 minutes. We are missing players but they score in the 99th minute.
“We were completely in control on Saturday and then we got a red card, this is the hand we deal with.
“But I'm not interested in sulking about it or complaining about bad luck.”
City were left kicking themselves against Derek Adams' side as they squandered a big scoring opportunity before Neil Byrne was sent off.
“I don't think we created as many chances as we have in the past, but we worked a lot this week on certain aspects up front to take those chances,” Alexander said.
“The players get paid to go out there and do their job. We can help them get into position and we're very positive about that and we'll take that into the next game, but , it ultimately comes down to the actions that take place on the pitch.
“We looked at how we let ourselves down in our previous games against Morecambe over the last 18 months, conceding four goals in three games in the first 20 minutes.
“We didn’t intend to do that at all, we were pretty in control and had good opportunities to score.

“We have a lot of games coming up, so we just have to keep working with the players.”
City will play seven league games between now and New Year's Day, as well as a Virtu Trophy trip to Stockport tomorrow. Alexander remains confident of an upturn in fortunes.
“We have to make extraordinary efforts to turn the situation to our advantage.
“I believe we will because we have the staff and players to do it, and we will fulfill our potential in the next 30 games of the season.
“Our ambition was for the league and it remains for us.”
