Calderdale City Council initially announced the road would reopen by Christmas Eve 2024, but this has been postponed. The City Council then sought to reopen the single lane with two-way traffic lights on January 13th.
The sewers on the road between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden belong to Yorkshire Water, but the culverts are the responsibility of Calderdale City Council.
The council plans to remove part of the culvert and install new pipes to allow access to the sewers. The culvert will then be backfilled and repaired before the road is restored.
The statement continued: “We know this is frustrating and inconvenient for everyone involved, but we can only apologize and thank residents and businesses for their understanding as we work through this as quickly and safely as possible.” he added.
“Our priority remains reopening roads and maintaining waste services for our customers.”
Shuttle buses serving people along Halifax Road in Todmorden will remain in place until the road partially reopens, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Additional signage has been installed to indicate that Todmorden and Hebden Bridge town centers are open and accessible for shops in both towns, including along Halifax Road, although there is no direct route. .
