Bradford's Crown Court heard that 47-year-old Abdul Schher had called her sleazy and disgusting name, demanding video evidence to show how she controlled her ex-wife's movements and where she was.
He also used violence.
Prosecutor Tayo Dasar told the court last October that he grabbed her neck with both hands, shoved her head into a pillow, held the air in check, and threatened to kill her with a knife.
The incident was spotted by a son who warned his mother's screams and tried to intervene but was forced into the wall.
Shuhel continued to create a threat and cried out in Bengali. I'll get a knife to kill you. ”
His victim was horrified when he heard him “rattle” in the kitchen, as he really believed he was getting a knife to carry out his threat.
Police were called out as a result of the incident and lasted for 30 minutes.
On another occasion, Shuchel pushed the woman onto the couch, grabbed her face and tried to bite her neck, but instead bit her nose.
During another incident, he unconsciously punched her.
In a statement read to the court on her behalf, the victim spoke of Schher's “unjust and inhumane behavior” and described him as “furious and monstrous.”
She says that his violence and abuse stripped her of her self-worth, left her mentally traumatized and hurt her for life.
She said: “I feel like a dead person is walking.”
Schher pleaded guilty to two count assaults by inflicting control and forced action and threats of death in addition to breaches.
Safaraz Ahad said the mitigation measures had Shuhel, who had not been previously convicted, not swinging a knife around when making threats.
He said that Schher did not want to resume his relationship with his wife, but he wanted it as the “hardwork” to provide to his family.
He was said to have “really regretted it and now I see the mistakes in his way.”
Schel's sentence on Coldcotes Avenue in Leeds, Recorder's Patrick Palmer, who is a prison sentence of 20 months in total, said the key patterns of forced action had “devastating effects” on the victims.
He also imposed a five-year restraint order banning Shuchel from contact with children unless approved by the family court or social services.
