A little inspiration might be all you need to make mealtime fun again. That's where Yazio comes in.
Yazio is a recipe app that gives you weekly meal ideas, even if you don't know what to make for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
I decided to give it a try and cooked 3 meals for £22.31. Here's what I cooked and what I thought about the app, including its level of convenience, best features, and parts I didn't use.
The overall price doesn't include salt and pepper as they were already in the cupboard, but you can expect to pay around 65p for salt (Morrisons) and around £1.25 for pepper (Morrisons). This brings the total cost of the three meals to £24.21.
What I thought after cooking 3 meals with Yazio
protein breakfast muffins
The first recipe I tried was a breakfast snack called Protein Breakfast Muffins. This recipe was described as “easy” to make, and it was.
I decided to give this a try as I thought it would be an easy breakfast that I could make the night before and eat during my break at work.
The recipe was simple and used only a few ingredients: tomatoes, green onions, fresh basil, eggs, egg whites, salt, and pepper.
The breakfast muffins were delicious and I think they are ideal for people who commute to work or eat breakfast on the go.
bell pepper and cream cheese rolls
Next, I tried creating lunch options from the Yazio app.
I like to eat a variety of things for lunch, such as wraps, so when I saw this recipe, I thought I'd try adding a little twist to my usual wraps.
This recipe was easy to follow, but the rolls were difficult to eat and the rolls would start to crumble and spread, so I'm not sure how anyone could look elegant while eating them.
Although I enjoyed the flavor, I think the rolls would have held together better if they had used more than two cocktail sticks. But I don't know how that will affect the way I eat. It's probably a little hard to avoid two cocktail sticks.
The sauce was a nice addition, but I had a hard time pureeing it as the recipe calls for, so it came out a little watery and messier.
It's an easy lunch idea so I'm going to make it again and perfect my technique.
Chickpea coconut curry and rice
For tea, I made chickpea coconut curry and rice, which is completely different from the curry I usually make at home.
This doesn't have any meat in it, so I always add chicken to my curry, so I was curious to see how it would turn out. Of course, you can add meat to this curry if you wish, but I stuck to the recipe and didn't add any meat.
It didn't take long to make this curry. And the best part is that you can add as much or as little spice as you like, following the recipe that advises you to add spices to your taste.
I liked the overall flavor of the curry, but I was surprised at how much I liked it, as chickpeas aren't something I usually incorporate into my diet.
Favorite features of the Yazio app
For me, one of the best features of the Yazio app is its structure. Recipes are divided into categories such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, vegan, high protein, low fat, and low calorie, making it easy to find the recipe that's right for you and what you want to achieve.
We also have an 'Get Inspired' section with several recipes grouped into categories such as Fish Friday, Favorite Curry Recipes, and Comfortable Dinners.
This changes daily, so it's a good idea to take a look and add the ones you want to make to your favorites to save for your next meal.
I also like that I have a choice of methods. If you want to cook with fewer ingredients, or want easy recipes or recipes that work for you on the go, you can scroll through the different sections until you find what you like.
In our 'Around the World' section you'll find food you've never tried anywhere else, and in our 'Special Occasions' section you'll find hosting inspiration.
The recipes on the Yazio app are simple, list ingredients separately from how to make them, and spread out nicely. I love that I can change the serving size and the recipe adapts so I can cook for more people or make extra portions to save for later.
One feature I didn't take advantage of in the Yazio app was the diary section. Instead of marking dates, I preferred to bookmark recipes I wanted to try.

However, I can imagine this being very useful if you're busy and want to meal plan for the week so you know what to make and when. I prefer to write my list after planning my meals.
I tried changing the measurements of the ingredients in the recipe from ounces to grams, but I couldn't find an option to do that, so I spent some time converting it myself. This was a little frustrating, but not the end of the world.
The app also helps you track your nutrition, including how much water you drink throughout the day, and your carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake.
You can also track measurements such as steps and weight. Users can learn about intermittent fasting and track their progress. These are interesting features, although I've never done them.
Overall, using this app has opened my eyes to some new and different recipes and has made my food shopping more systematic. I looked forward to trying something new each time I ate.
