With eight galleries displaying her art, Lucy has become a somewhat common name loved in the North and beyond. Today we get an internal look when we sit with Lucy and learn more about the artist behind the pastels…
How would you describe your new collection?
“Happy! A series of eight pieces that celebrates all the animals in between, from furry to feathers. Each piece highlights the unique beauty of the creatures around us.
What inspired this collection?
“I'm lucky to be surrounded by nature and animals. This collection is inspired by the animals that appear in veterinarians around me and in Yorkshire. When I saw the veterinarians take care of these animals, I was grateful for the joy they bring to our lives.”
Do you have any furry friends?
“Yes! I have a little Jack Russell named Patsy. She loves to snuggle with my feet.
(Image: Lucy Pitaway) If Patsy could talk, what would she say about your artwork?
“She's probably going to ask why I haven't made a series about her!”
Which of the new collections are you currently portraying?
“Spag and Hetty. I love this particular kind of curly spaghetti coat and sipping black face. They have so many personalities and I love drawing them. I also love being around hills and lakes, and this painting is my favorite in the collection.”
What is the creative process like when you start a new collection?
“I start with ideas, but often I evolve it as I get inspiration from a country walk with my family. I sketch it and mix the structure with spontaneity.

“Easy! I spend the day outside with my husband Neal, my teenage twins, Patsy. Maybe we'll have a picnic. If we're not painting, I usually enjoy nature – that's my happy place.”
