York Council's Children, Culture and Community Scrutiny Committee has heard that the Southport attack last year has seen an increase in referrals to prevent it as awareness of extremist beliefs have increased.
Council Community Safety Lead Jane Mowatt said the growing motivation for people to report concerns has been positive, especially as young people have been raised following the coronavirus pandemic.
This is because York's channel scheme currently has three open cases, according to a council report on the issue.
The channel offers what is mentioned to block voluntary support in order to address the reasons why they are attracted to extremist beliefs.
Preventing York referrals is not included in the report, but according to the latest government data, 6,922 referrals were made in 2023-4 in 2023-4 compared to 6,817 in 2023-3.
The Northeastern introduction numbered 1,040 people in 2023-4, slightly down from the 1,042 referrals the previous year.
The category with the most referrals in the Northeast was contradictory at 286.
This includes people who have been introduced to hold opinions, inconsistent ideological mixtures, or to move between beliefs.
It was followed by 276 introductions that were found to be vulnerable but not clearly ideologically linked to the concerns raised.
The particular ideology with the highest number of referrals in the Northeast was the extreme right-wing view, totaling 202 in 2023-4.
It was followed by referrals for those who hold Muslim beliefs, 87, and those associated with school genocides and those who are stuck in massacres and mass violence.

Twenty of the people introduced were categorized as the others, including left, environmentalism, animal rights, separatist causes and extreme views related to Northern Ireland.
The views and actions categorized as “incel” meant a violent view of women towards women as a result of being unconsciously single and feeling rejected by women, and explained 10 introductions.
After being introduced, a total of 135 people were found to be riskless in terms of ideology and vulnerability.
Nationally, 2,489 of the featured items were found to be vulnerable without a clear ideological link, with 1,314 referrals being made due to extreme right-wing views.
A total of 1,278 referrals related to people with contradictory ideologies. Introduction to 913 linked to Islamism, 162 school massacres and violence, 54 cases are linked to incel behavior.
There were a total of 126 other referrals, with 581 of the referrals found to be riskless after evaluation.
More than half of the 610-year-old Northeastern referrals in 2023-4 were under 18 years old, while 434 was between 11-15 and 54 years old.
Nationally, 892 referrals were 16-17 years old, while 2,729 years old were under 10 years old, with people between the ages of 11 and 15-297.
Most referrals in the Northeast come from educational institutions such as 453 schools in total, with a comparable national figure of 2,788.
The second most common referrals were made to police at 321 and 1,921 respectively, with 89 and 672 through the health sector.
A total of 18 referrals and 156 came from the community nationwide in the Northeast, with 13 and 143 from family and friends, respectively.
Apart from that, there were 182 hate crimes recorded in York and North Yorkshire from April to December 2024, compared to 199 throughout 2023-4.
These figures fell from 233 between 2021 and 2:00, but increased from 168 in 2022-3.
Mowat, the council's Community Safety Director, said the increase in referrals followed local rises, followed by investments in training and awareness throughout York and North Yorkshire.
She couldn't elaborate on the specific reasons for York's introduction, but added that many of them are related to social media activities, including sharing extreme content and videos.
MS MOWAT chairs local channel panels to assess preventing referrals.
Officials said: “The number of referrals has increased significantly, and the amount of cases that have entered the channel is the highest I've ever seen.
“The biggest change we have seen is the increase in the number of young people coming in since the pandemic, partly due to the isolation they were experiencing during lockdown and spending more online time.
“Most of that is about the view that it is often made clear to schools and social workers, until we unleash what we don’t know.
“Nine times out of 10 children are only curious children. The beauty of the prevention process is that they are not included in the criminal justice system. That is to explain that what they are discussing and doing is not necessarily appropriate.”
