Giggling Squid, a national chain serving Thai tapas, has submitted an application for an alcohol license and plans to open in the former Banks Music Store in Rendal.
Giggling Squid's website states that the restaurant brings together a wide range of dishes, bold flavors and exotic ingredients.
The submission of the license application to York Council comes after planning permission for the restaurant was granted in May and its signage granted in early June.
Plans will see vacant rooms that were once home to a bank that closed in February.
Banks is Britain's oldest music store, tracing its roots back to 1756 when it first opened on Blake Street.
Chokdee Ltd, trading under the name Giggling Squid, has applied for opening hours from 10am to 11.30pm throughout this week.
If the application is approved, permission will be granted to sell alcoholic beverages from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Andy and Prany Lauriad founded Giggling Squid in 2002, opening their first restaurant in Brighton.
The chain currently has around 50 restaurants across the UK, including one in Harrogate, with plans to open another in Leeds.
The menu includes curries, noodles, stir-fries such as Pad Thai, meat dishes, seafood dishes, vegetarian dishes, and a variety of rice dishes.
There are also sharing platters such as satay skewers.
A variety of cocktails are also available.
Kusukusu Squid first announced plans to open a restaurant in York in February.
This comes about a year after Banks' Music Room owner Hal Leonard Europe announced plans to move online and close many of its locations.
The store in York closed, along with stores in Edinburgh, Exeter, Lincoln, Salisbury and Stratford, and the flagship store in London's Denmark Street has since closed.
Giggling Squid applications are being accepted until Wednesday, July 17th.
