It is proposed that Wakefield Road has bus lanes in each direction, with pavement being expanded to accommodate cycle lanes and all subways being filled. I generally agree with this proposal, but I don't think I'll get anything from filling up the Dudley Hill Roundabout metro.
The second part is to spread Tong Street over two lanes in each direction, from Dudley Hill Roundabout to Toft Shaw Lane.
Expanding this road will increase traffic and its effect will increase congestion. There are many bottlenecks on the A650 from Dudley Hill to Tin Reaver (the roads are very narrow and the HGV cannot be used to access the M1). Expanding such a short section of the A650 will increase the traffic used as a shortcut to the M62 for Gildersome, increasing the crowding between Toftshaw Lane and Gildersome Roundabout.
There are several benefits to expanding Tong Street to its confluence with Birkenshaw Road (A651/A652). This requires removing slices from Tong Cemetery and many grave obstructions. As roads expand in Toftshaw Lane, drivers will encourage drivers to use Toftshaw Lane and East Bierley as rat orchids. The roads are not wide enough for the 283 bus.
I don't think they should make any changes to Tong Street as they are more likely to do harm than good.
