Police say a man, believed to be around 19 years old, grabbed a teenage boy's Moncler coat in an incident that took place around 9.20pm last night (December 26) in the Low Street/Low Garth Road area. It is said that he stole it.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean Page, of York and Selby CID, said: “Extensive investigations are continuing to locate the suspect and we may have doorbell video and private CCTV that may have captured the suspect. I appeal to residents and businesses in the area.” A person who had driven through the area and may have dashcam footage of the suspect was also captured on camera.
“This is a very worrying and serious incident in which a young man is being threatened with a knife.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, including any sightings or knowledge of a man matching the description of the suspect, please contact us.”
North Yorkshire Police said the man was approximately 19 years old, of mixed race, approximately 5ft 10in tall, with a thin build and dark curly hair.
Troops also described him as having a distinctive Japanese tattoo on the right side of his neck, possibly resembling the letters “KAN.”
