Marston and chef Tom Shepherd launch “Best Ayer Pub Pie”

Marstons will be offering special pies created by Tom Shepherd in 100 pubs nationwide. But that's not the case in York.

Four North Yorkshire pubs will be serving pie for 12 weeks starting April 17th. This includes Harrogate's curious cow, Whitby's penny hedge and Northerrton's Willowbeck.

The triple layered pie is filled with hand-pulled beef cheeks, caramelized onions and roasted potatoes. The pie comes with seasonal vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes and a rich red wine sauce.

Tom Shepherd is an award-winning chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur and is based in Staffordshire, based at a Michelin-starred restaurant on the second floor by Tom Shepherd. Tom appeared on the British menu in 2023, winning the main course round and earning a chance to cook the pie at the coveted banquet.

Tom works closely with the Marston development team to make sure the pie is as close to the flavor and appearance as possible as his iconic dishes.

Tom said: “We are very excited to partner with Marston to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to try out secret recipes. We've been asked to share a lot of recipes, but up until now it hasn't felt like the right partnership!

“For me, when I think about pubs, I was thinking about a good pie, so I was happy to have the opportunity to work with the Marston team to bring this pie to life, and I can't wait to see what people think.

“We've seen you get a lot of money,” said Claire Robertson, operations director for the Marstons. “The pie is some of the most popular dishes on our menu, but we wanted to do something special. We were excited when Tom Shepherd agreed to share his recipe.

“We have worked really hard to make the most delicious dishes possible. It's rich, decadent and absolutely delicious. We can't wait to introduce our customers across the UK to our best pub pie.

York may be missing out on Tom's “best pub pie of all time,” but there are world-renowned alternatives in the city.

High Petergate's Guy Fawkes Inn has earned worldwide acclaim for Steak and Alepie, and has recently been boosted by a laudable post from Tiktok influencer Kalani.

Additionally, Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks will be offering world-wide pie from Thor's Tipi Christmas Market at the Capitol, from Friday, May 23rd to August 25th.
