Matthew Curtis, Manchester-based beer writer and founder of Pericles magazine, which specializes in wine, cider, food and travel, praised the Ludgate Ruby Mild brewed at Tockwith.
He said: “Mild remains a niche style even in its country of origin, but it feels like it's been making a bit of a comeback over the past year, which should please traditionalists.”

“I definitely drink more, especially when I find Ruby on Cask. It’s supposed to be mild in appearance, with a garnet color and voluminous off-white bubbles.
“A sip reveals a world of ester-rich complexity, with luscious notes of stewed prunes, red currants and overripe plums, tasting like a quirkier, more subdued version of Theakston's Old Peculier. I will.”
