Yorkshire is expected to experience extreme winter weather over the next few days, with the Met Office issuing two yellow weather warnings for the region.
The first snow and ice warning covers parts of North Yorkshire, Huddersfield and Sheffield and will be in place from midday on Thursday until 10am on Friday. The warning says wintry showers and ice patches are expected overnight, which could cause travel disruption.
The Met Office said: “Winter showers will gradually move south from the afternoon and at times into the evening and evening, moving inland from the Irish Sea and North Sea coasts, particularly through the Cheshire Gap, affecting parts of the Midlands and north Wales. 2 to 5 cm of fresh snow is expected to accumulate, most likely above 100 meters.

“We can expect patches of ice to form on untreated roads Thursday evening into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing, especially after showers.”
They warn:
Some roads and railways will be affected and road, bus and train journey times may be longer
There will probably be some frozen spots on untreated roads, sidewalks and bike paths
Some people slip and fall on the ice and get injured.
Just hours after a weather warning ends, a new one will be issued. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, heavy snow is expected to melt quickly and bring significant rain on Saturday.
The Met Office said: “Rain will spread north-eastwards on Saturday, before snow falls across northern England and parts of Scotland. Over time, the snow will become more confined to higher elevations, but there will be temporary There is a possibility of snow.” Some areas will only see some snow, especially in the York Valley, where up to 5 to 10 centimeters of snow will accumulate, followed by periods of 10 to 20 centimeters of snow. Above 150 meters above ground it is possible, but above 300 meters it is probably about 20-40 cm.

There is a slight chance of transportation delays on roads where some vehicles and passengers are stranded. Train and flight delays or cancellations may also occur.
