Matthew Bourne's award-winning production company The Midnight Bell returned to the York Theatre Royal stage this June.
Inspired by the work of great British novelist Patrick Hamilton (20,000 Hangovers, Square of Hangovers), and produced by a new adventure, the story is set in a 1930s tavern in London where “the lovely Hearts Clubs gather to play the Laborg matters of the Mind.”

The play premiered in 2021, toured the country and won five nominations at the 2022 National Dance Awards, with Matthew Bourne winning the Michela Meazza for Best Modern Choreography and Outstanding Women's Modern Performance.
The cast will also feature 14 New Adventure actors and dancers, along with a team of Tony and Olivier's award-winning designers, musicians, lighting designers and technical teams.
The show won an award for choreography (Image: Johann Person) Matthew Bourne said: “This is definitely the best company of typical new adventure actors/dancers assembled for a single production!
“In fact, it would be hard to imagine a cast perfectly suited to Patrick Hamilton's challenging world and his exploration of the dark range of human minds.
“We are thrilled to welcome many of the incredible original cast members, Reese Costson, Glenn Graham, Daisy Kemp, Andrew Monaghan, Liam Lawnmower and Michela Meatza, who won national dance awards for their roles in this production.”
Midnight Bell is created by a new adventure (Image: Johann Person) “Don't miss this opportunity not to be repeated to join us in the evening at the Bell at midnight and raise our glass to the best that a new adventure has to offer.”
