Multiple police vehicles and an ambulance were at the scene, and Viner Street at the intersection with Haxby Road was cordoned off with police tape.
A police spokesperson said three people at the scene were injured, two men and a woman were treated by doctors at the scene.
A spokesperson said: “One of the men, aged in his 20s, from the Bradford area was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, he died in hospital yesterday evening.”
“The other man is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is in stable condition.”
Police added that a murder investigation has been launched and is currently ongoing.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson added: “A cordon has been put in place in residential areas around the scene and there will continue to be a heavy police presence in the area.”
