The fire was identified by staff, North Yorkmoor National Park and local gamekeepers who escalated their response to emergency services, the railway said.
Paul Middleton, director of mechanical engineering, said: “We will operate the heritage diesel locomotive fleet in our service, especially as it has been dry and warmer since March.
“We are working closely with local partners such as North Yorkmoor National Park, North Yorkshire Fire Rescue Service and Wildfire Groups to reduce the risk of implementing these additional safety measures.”
Middleton added that all the planned services on the railroad are still running between Pickering and Whitby.
Steam Train enthusiasts can see the locomotive Sir Nigel Gresley on Steam on Grosmont Station on Saturday, April 12th.
