Oasis Café at Lowo's Gate is the latest venture by Waleglass, owner of Enoteca by Middlefeast in Lendal and Lauba on Bridge Street, and his business partner Idris Abbaz.
It is located in a former nail salon across the street from Wael's Moroccan-themed restaurant, Marrakesh, which opened last year.

The businessman told the press that the Oasis's name aims to provide a coastal holiday theme in the heart of York.
He hopes the cafe, which opened on Sunday (March 9th) with a strong team of eight, will become the top venue for breakfast and lunch in town.
“I want to be a place for breakfast and lunch like Betty,” Wale said. “Maybe one day I'll become famous (Betty's).

All the food is cooked fresh, he said.

The menu features sweet treats such as cleps, waffles, American-style pancakes and French toast, including full English breakfasts, eggs Benedict and poached eggs.
On the lunch side, there are salads, wraps and sandwiches.

“Everyone starts to start with delicious food first and then the standards start slipping,” he said. “All my food needs to be good at all times, nothing changes.
“It's very difficult, but there's no compromise. I'll do everything the same.”

His target audience is family and couples, not just a bite in the morning, but a couple.
Wael chose that location as he was looking for a venue with high footing outside.
Converting the buildings was not easy
He admitted that transforming a building was not an easy task, but rather to waste the upper floors, “better to use” and bring in additional revenue.
“I'm so happy it's over,” he said. “I'm relaxed now.”

However, he brings him extensive experience in the hotel industry.
