One Man Poe from Threedumb Theatre will be performing on June 1st at Theater@41 Mongrate.
The show returned after a sold-out visit to the York Medical Society last year, seeing Stephen Smith play four spine-shaking works of the American author.
The show sold out an entire run of 21 shows at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, winning the Spookies Award for Best Horror Solo Show.
Tell-Tale Heart, Pit and the Pendulum, Black Cat, and Raven are works represented by one Poe.
Smith said: “Last summer, I had a great time at the York Medical Society on June 28th.
“When I arrived at the venue, I was able to greet everyone and chat with Gothic horror fans who had traveled far away.
“I felt a real appreciation of the horror genre from the people of York – the city is interested in ghosts and supernatural – I felt our show really fits the bill.
“This was proof that it sold out a few weeks ago.
“But this time we're playing the show in a real theater!
“This means that by connecting my creepy sound design to the right PA system, I can present the show with true theatrical flares and programmed over 100 lighting clues.
As a child who was a “big fan” of the late Roger Corman/Vincent Price's Poe Cycle, Smith rekindled his love for classic horror stories during the pandemic by creating an online directing of Poe's work via Facebook Live.
In the words of the spokesman, “When the theatres reopened, he combined Poe's four most popular works in a solo show, naming them The Extravaganza One Man Poe.”
One Man Poe was first performed at the Watford Palace Theatre in 2021.
