Three years after the launch of the 42-mile Yorkshire Heritageway Recreation Trail at Bradford Cathedral by the Burley Bridge Association, there is another opportunity to complete the entire route over four days with the help of minibus transport.
The trail, starting at Ripon Cathedral, connects two of Yorkshire's World Heritage Sites, Saltaire and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, passing through some of the stunning views the North Yorkshire and Bradford districts have to offer.
David Asher, chairman of Burley-in-Wharfedale Walkers, is a welcome group hosting the event. “We are delighted to be able to contribute to Bradford 2025.
“This route passes through beautiful areas within the Niderdale National Scenery Area, such as Brimhamrocks, along the Nidd River and Washburn Valley, passing fun settlements, villages and historic sites such as the 13th-century Butterton Bridge.
“As you cross the Wharf River to the Bradford area, the trail climbs Burley Moor with spectacular views of Airedale and Shipley Glenn, then descends a lush corridor of incredibly green and wildness, reaching the end of the Bradford Cathedral trail.”
The minibuses transport walkers from Burley in Warfedale Railway Station to the starting point of their first three-day walk, collecting them at the end of the first and second days.
Day 3 ends with Burley in Warfedale, where the fourth begins.
The walk concludes at Bradford Cathedral, where light snacks are available along with a talk about the cathedral.
Covering the mini-bath costs for the first three days of a walk costs £25 per person.
Public transport is available on the fourth day. Burley-in-Wharfedale frequently has trains from Bradford, Leeds and Ilkley, with bus services from Leeds and Ilkley, including the recently revived X84.
