This follows a call for inspiration from the South Stand's new sponsor, Persimmon.
As The Press reported last week, the York-based housebuilder is planning to create a new area of advertising space to allow fans to add some York City color to the space at the back of the stands, where the more vocal contingent of City fans gather. I let go of some.
The winning design, the work of supporters Alex Bedingham, James Flintoft and Stephen Regard, will be proudly displayed alongside a new banner honoring former player David Longhurst, who will be shown in action this Saturday against Maidenhead United. It will be unveiled by the family.
Alex, who was the mascot for City's famous 1993 play-off final victory, said of his design, which draws on City's rich history: We feel it is important to remember and honor everything that came before us – our colorful history and rich heritage. ”
Season ticket holder Stephen said: “York City FC represents our beautiful city. Many of our other supporters and I were born and raised here and we are proud to support local tea. It is therefore important to include the Minstermen in the design to pay homage to our landmark.”
James said: “The new stadium was great but we felt it was missing part of our identity. The new banner we have created shows that this is the home of York City as they aim for promotion to the Football League. We hope that this will be conveyed to all visitors.”
Persimmon was recently announced as the new sponsor of the South Stand, building on its existing partnership with York City FC Foundation.
